THIS Is Why I Read!

So, yesterday was our belated Thanksgiving dinner, complete with turkey, dressing, mashed taters 'n gravy, punkin pie and green bean casserole. Easy peasy, right? Denied! Family drama, of which I cannot escape even separated by three states, intervened and totally took the wind right out of my sails. Don't get me wrong, I love and adore my family -- seriously -- but, timing has never been their strong suit.

Anyway...

I was able to successfully complete the meal, feed John and even clean the kitchen, all during phone calls with various members of my family. I even made arrangements FOR my family long-distance while scrubbing the roasting pan I'd so painstakingly cooked our 18.34lb bird in. I kept thinking to myself that this is the stuff of Janet Evanovich legend; surely Stephanie Plum has gotten herself into a mishap or two and won't my silly family's antics be great filler for a great wacky, zany, contemporary story? HA! Then I remembered, that's right -- I don't write. Ok, well, I don't write books and I'm definitely not talented - or dedicated - enough to slog through a book from conception to completion, through editing and than finally, trying to sell the blasted thing.

Just to round this out and give you reason for the cutesy lil' subject header and kickin' photo of Marilyn Monroe stressing in black and white -- I read for entertainment, for something to do, and because it's vastly more enjoyable than housecleaning (*cough*). But last night, I read until 4 a.m. because I needed to get away, and since there wasn't a circus nearby looking for takers, I vegged by reading a damned good book. And you know what? I'll do it again tonight. Although I'd prefer to do it without the stressful prologue of my family calling me in a panic...

LOL - I loved this post Amy! I too lost my reading mojo, but thankfully I can't blame it on family drama. No, I just got lazy and distracted. Although last night I finally finished up the HH I was reading and plowed through two Spice Briefs short stories. Go us!

I've been reading like a motha the past few nights, and tonight I totally derailed and caught up on some DVR'ed shows. Had to see the CSI trilogy from a couple weeks ago!

Of course, I'm not sleepy yet, so I'll probably try and go finish up that one review I have yet for the month. I'll be back on track!

Reading is the most effective way to switch off. Once I become absorbed in a good book, I cease to think about everyday worries. Best form of therapy available, in my opinion!

When I was telling my sister-in-law (and best friend)that a close friend had died the day before of breast cancer, she then asked me how many books had I read last night. I said 3 as I could not sleep. Books are such a great comfort.
