Resolutions? I Have A Few

Every new year many people pause a moment and make a few resolutions for the upcoming year. It's an ongoing battle to keep these promises and usually by the end of February, more than a few have been broken. Especially those that involve dieting and watching their calories, carbs, and fat grams. I mean, where's the sense in that with Valentine's Day (chocolate much?) and the holy day of sports ...Super Bowl Sunday. It's being said that a lot of football devotees actually lay out a spread that rivals a holiday meal on SSS. I like that idea because, well, I love to cook and I adore football. Even if the blasted, *bleep*ing Steelers aren't a contender this year. Damnit. To lose to Cleveland earlier this season? Hell, my mom could beat Cleveland sitting down. But I'm not hatin'...

This year, my biggest resolution is to reacquaint myself with my favorite hobby: reading. There's a reason why I've bought all the books I have in my life, and it's not because I simply love to collect dust. I've seen many folks' compiled lists of the books they read in 2009, and I want to weep. I mean, how can you lament the fact that you read less in '09 than '08 and that number still clocks in at over 100? Or 200? I'm willing to bet that I didn't even break 65-70! Heck, I didn't even keep track of what I read in the numerous book journals I've bought over the years.

I've seen all these neat little memes and sticky posts across the Blogosphere, asking readers to list their best and worst reads, the new authors they discovered, the most virile heroes, and the heroines who caused us to raise a fist for girl power. Honestly, my reading in '09 could almost be listed on the head of a pin. And that's just sad. If I think about it, I'm sure I could come up with one or two gems - in fact, I know I can. But I just can't be bothered to burn up the energy to try. I want this year to be better, to be more, and I want to be adventurous in my reading. I'm one of those readers who may have bought the occasional urban fiction book, but seriously have yet to read one (I'm already eyeing up Carolyn Crane's debut in March). This year I will. And dare I try a genre that has rapidly grown in popularity but have stayed away from because it is just outside my comfort level - m/m romance? Maybe, just maybe...

So, here's to a new year, a new me, and a helluva lot more reading in 2010! Cin cin!

I read more in 2009 than 2008 - but I still fell short of 100. And I sorta padded my totals with several short story reads. Shhhhh, don't tell!

I need to get my compilation posts done over at my blog. Soon.....

Oh I so hear ya!! I read maybe 25 books this year and I didn't finish 9 of them. So I have also decided to get my reading on. Let's face it, we blog and then blog hop and then I don't know about you but I can always burn some hours with popcorn and a coke to watch the latest internet blow up.

So yeah, here's to making time to read, read, read!! Happy New Year!
