All I Want For Christmas...

Merry Christmas Eve-Eve! I remember wishing everyone and their aunt that on the 23rd of each December when I was a kid. It was my bass-ackwards way of speeding up time, counting down to that glorious day of days, Christmas morning, when my sister, brother and I could dive headfirst into all the loot that Santa Claus brought us. Now, as an adult and, yes, without kids, I have an idea of the probable panic and mass hysteria that my parents experienced each and every year when the clock just wouldn't slow down and Christmas was not just right around the corner, but TWO DAYS AWAY. Granted, I'm not having a whole host of family and friends over for the holidays, but I've got this mad desire to have this house sparkling clean, from top to bottom, by the time my mother arrives on the 26th or 27th. I am taming the packrat in me and banishing him to the far reaches of the county by tossing stuff. Yes, actually throwing crap away that I have let lay around and collect dust, grime, grease, and dirt for too many years.

To celebrate, I went to Books-A-Million with my sweetie after a lunch date at the local pizza place. *snort* What a way to benchmark this monumental occasion of cleaning house by bringing more stuff in, eh? It's not my fault that BAM had the new Elizabeth Boyle book out! It fairly leapt into my hands...

Oh, I brought home a couple others too, but I was so excited about the Boyle book that I've temporarily forgotten the titles.

Join me tomorrow when I recount the tales of hilarity and insanity as I describe John's probable mental breakdown when I ask him to help me clean up the living room. It promises to be fun all around -- good times, good times!

You really scored! I just got my first finished copy today--so I am feeling most left out. Hope you enjoy the book. And good luck with the cleaning. We are dashing around here as well.

You will feel like a 100 pounds has been lifted off your shoulders once you tame the pack rat. I know this will hurt - but I highly recommend tackling kitchen cabinets. When we moved cross country, I found stuff in my kitchen that I FORGOT I OWNED! Needless to say, it all ended up at Goodwill.

Wendy, nooooooo! Say it isn't so?! The kitchen cabinets, seriously?! Ugh, you know I love to cook and I NEED all of that! ;-S

Actually I threw out a couple of well-intentioned gifts that people gave me over the years because they were all cow-related, and along with dust and books, I collect cows. For my birthday, my plan is to hit the antique shop down the road and buy some hanging shelves where I can showcase my "collection".
